Useless, does not connect to the internet, I get BBC radio 1 and it does not connect. Instructions are completely misleading. Works fine as FM radio but I can get the same sound from a pair of BOSE speakers.
My Score: 1 / 5 Stars
Update 08/14/2009: I haven’t updated the firmware to enable WEP but WPA-2 is more secure anyway. I would like to give this more stars but Amazon’s edit feature won’t let me change that . . . I can’t give it 5 because the documentation that comes with it really could be better, but this radio does enable you to add stations VERY easily (something you can’t do with the Muzee or Aluratek USB radios without submitting email requests to support to add for you) and also allows you to categorize favorites. Not only is the user interface excellent (you access your radio’s account online from any browser), customer email support is outstanding. I submitted a question recently about Para-X and 3 agents responded to me in less than 48 hrs. The radio also comes with aux in for iPod/Zune/etc capability.
My Score: 1 / 5 Stars
I received this radio for Christmas. It is a nice product..I hope this helps someone..
When I attempted to connect it to my home network, I could NOT get it to work at all when attempting to set it for DHCP(auto network config mode)..
With either wireless ot wired connection..
It DOES work however, with no issues, when I set it to use a fixed IP address(manual config mode), in either wired or wireless modes..
I have reported this to Sangean, in both email and phone vmail..I hope they can rectify this with a firmware patch or something..
Other than this, the radio works great though..
Regards,
JFeole

I’ve lived with this Sangean wifi radio since it became available and here’s what I think:
The sound quality is excellent (for a clock radio if you catch my drift). Very rich, not tinny, good bass response, clear and tweakable. Obviously the stereo separation is nil because the speakers are just inches apart.
Frontier Silicon is the WiFi radio portal for this Sangean model. It’s very reliable. It would be nice if they had links to the radio stations on their website though.
The Sangean is of very limited use to me as a so called “media player”, because it will only play MP3 files and WMA files. I have nearly 8000 WAV files on my hard drive which this Sangean will not play and only a handful of MP3 files, so for me it’s a waste as a media player. This is a big disappointment to me, maybe not for you. I hope they’ll update the software someday to accommodate more types of files. Other wifi radios that bill themselves as media players will play WAV files.
The Sangean seems a bit overpriced, since realistically speaking, everything this radio does, your computer can do better and do it for free. All you need is Realplayer (you can even record radio for up to 8 hours with Realplayer) and Windows Media Player(both free)and a decent set of external speakers. I think it’s fair to compare the sound quality you will get out of this Sangean with average quality external computer speakers except you can space computer speakers farther apart.
By the way, I assume you love radio so check out [...] for a free wifi radio portal brought to you by none other than Frontier Silicon. All of the stations are there, and in addition there are links to the stations themselves.
In conclusion the best thing about this radio for me is that it frees me from my computer. There are other WiFi radios out there and I can’t help but think I should have kept looking for a more versatile less expensive one.

Using the Sangean WFR1 Internet radio a couple of weeks already. It is easy to use and it was easy to set up. It looks good, too.
I would have liked it totally if:
1. Would display the details of the piece being played. Now it displays the name of the station, the country, the quality of transmission, and nothing about the piece being transmitted.
2. Would have the possibility to dim the light of the display, which is too strong and permanent.
3. The quality of the sound is acceptable, a bit on the boomy side.
4. It would be nice if the clock would not be back to 12 a.m. each time it is replugged into the electrical outlet.
My Score: 4 / 5 Stars
